About this product

Product Information

Experience all of the dot-gobbling, maze-maneuvering mayhem of the world famous Pac-Man arcade game on your Game Gear. You control the pie-shaped title character as he avoids four pesky ghosts while attempting to clear a maze lined with yummy dots. You can play the game in half-size screen mode where you can see the entire maze at all times or full-size screen mode where you get a close-up of Pac-Man's location in the maze.

In each of the four corners of the maze, you'll see a larger dot called a Power Pellet. When Pac-Man munches one of these tasty morsels, he can temporarily turn the tables on his archenemy apparitions and gobble them up for bonus points. When a ghost has been gobbled, its eyes will return to the center of the screen, and the ghost will reform and continue chasing Pac-Man. A Warp Tunnel is situated on either side of the maze to help you avoid the ghosts.

In addition to dots and pellets, Pac-Man can gulp down cherries, strawberries, oranges and other fruit treats. There is never more than one fruit treat onscreen, and it always appears rooted in place just below the center section in the maze. In Ms. Pac-Man, the sequel to Pac-Man, the fruits tend to bounce around the maze pathways. In both games, when you have eaten all the dots, you go on to another screen of fresh dots and eager ghosts. Ms. Pac-Man boasts four different mazes while each maze in Pac-Man is identical in design.

In the arcade version of Pac-Man, the two-player mode is alternating. In this handheld rendition, the two-player mode is a special competitive game in which players connect their Game Gear systems via the Gear-to-Gear Cable. Games consist of four rounds of play. There are nine rounds to choose from, each round progressively more difficult than the one before it.

When you eat a ghost in the two-player mode, it pops up on your opponent's screen. A two-player game ends when one player has cleared all four of his or her mazes or when one player loses all of his or her lives. The player with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.
